Saving, project files and revisions
SightLine saves every change on your PC as you work. Project files and revisions are extra copies for sharing and for keeping versions.
Automatic saving
Every map is saved in your SightLine maps folder as you edit. The top bar shows Saving… and then Saved. There is no need to press save to keep your work.
Project files (.sightline)
A project file holds a whole map, including its plan overlays, in one file you can keep in a job folder, back up or send to a colleague.
- Save project (Ctrl+S): the first time, choose where to save the file. After that the file is kept in step with the map automatically, and Ctrl+S updates it straight away. The file's name shows in the top bar.
- Save project as… (Ctrl+Shift+S): saves to a new file, which then becomes the one kept in step.
- Open project… (Ctrl+O): opens a .sightline file. If you already have that map and your copy is newer, your copy is kept.
All three are in the More ▾ menu. Open project… is also on the home screen, and you can click the file button in the top bar (📄 Save to file…) to save.
Recent
The Recent ▾ button, on the home screen and in the map's top bar, lists the last 30 maps you opened, with Open project file… and Clear this list at the bottom.
Import copy and Export
- Import copy on the home screen adds a .sightline file as a new, separate map. Use it for a colleague's design you want to change without touching their file.
- More ▾ → Export site file (.sightline), or the ⤓ button on a site card, saves a one-off copy of a map.
- The ⧉ button on a site card duplicates the map.
Revisions
A revision is a named snapshot of the design, such as the version you sent for approval. Revisions are lettered: Rev A, Rev B and so on.
- Click the revision button in the top bar (it says No revision until you save one), or choose More ▾ → Revisions (save / restore)….
- Type what changed, for example "Added LPR at north gate".
- Click Save revision.
To go back, click Restore next to a revision. SightLine first saves the current design as a revision marked "auto", so you can always come back to it.
